For leaders and their organisations, there is no return to the comfort and safety of a stable market in which to operate, the current landscape has made it clear that human resolve and resilience will be key in differentiating those businesses that fail from those that succeed.
What you see is all there is... Cognitive bias colours the way we perceive our reality. The phrase “what you see is all there is” is a term popularised by psychologist Daniel Kahneman in his book Thinking Fast & Slow, which describes the phenomenon that all the information we have, is all the information we think there is, creating an illusion that we are aware of everything that matters. This becomes a problem because we then fail to look for alternatives. We may be highly evolved, and our business may perform many tasks with great efficiency, but often a new set of eyes can be invaluable in accurately identifying areas of immediate improvement or the rapid action needed to re-stabilise a business or an initiative. How good are your teams at pushing against cognitive bias and seeing what is really there? |
